PRE-CONGRESS STUDY TOUR PROPOSAL
Historical and Cultural Heritages in Japan from Home Economics Perspectives
In conjunction with the XXIII IFHE World Congress 2016 in Korea, we are pleased to announce that the Japan Society of Home Economics has arranged a pre-congress study tour entitled historical and cultural heritages in Japan. The three-day tour starts and ends in Tokyo. We hope that this tour will give you an opportunity to learn and experience Japanese clothing, food and housing. We look forward to welcoming you in the summer of 2016.
- Cost : The approximate cost of this study tour is ￥40,000.
This includes accommodation, meals (including day 1 lunch, day 2 all meals, and day 3 breakfast), ground transportation, all program visits and experiences. It does not include airfares or train-fares, transfers to and from Tokyo station, medical and travel insurance, and personal spending money.

Day 1: From Tokyo to Saitama
You take a guided walk seeing historic and nostalgic buildings in Kawagoe City.
• July 27 (Wed)

|11:00am-12:00pm||Travel to Kawagoe City on a bus|
|12:00pm||Have lunch given a lecture on the history of Kawagoe City|
|1:00pm||Visit Kawagoe Castle, Kawagoe City Museum, Candy Alley and Kitain Temple|
|Stay at a hotel in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture|
Day 2: From Saitama to Gunma
You have an experience in making washi, Japanese paper made from the bark of trees. After that, you enjoy washoku, Japanese traditional food passed down over generations. As you know, both washi and washoku are on the list of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The experience activity of putting on kimono is also included in this tour.

Day 3: From Gunma back to Tokyo
Our biggest attraction: a visit to "Tomioka Silk Mill," another World Heritage site.
